Nia's New Album "Cappuccino Girls" Released
April 2006
Nia's latest album Cappuccino Girls was released on the 31st March 2006, just in time for The Clique women's conference. Whilst this is by no means Nia's first album, it is the first album where Nia has managed the entire project from the first draft of lyrics to printing of the finished product.
Nia teamed up with her old song writing friend, Mal Pope, to lift the words off the page and turn them into great songs - although, Nia herself, wrote the music for three of the songs on the album - Miriam's Dance, All of Me and To Boldly Go. Mal Pope has had a distinguished career, which started when he was invited to record a session for the BBC Radio 1 show 'Sounds of the Seventies', hosted by the legendary DJ, John Peel. Weeks later Mal was signed to Elton John's label 'Rocket Records'. Mal has worked with some of the top names in the music business - in Mal's words "...my CV is so impressive the only person who's name you won't recognise is mine!" Follow this link to Mal's site to find out more.
Once again, Nigey Nige Hopkins used his musical wizardry to ensure the finished product was finely tuned "...how bizarre is that!" Nia was able to entrust every aspect of production to Nige, from recording the vocals, programming and mixing the arrangements to guiding the final master session. As a highly respected musician, Nige is a Roland UK programmer and contributes to the sounds of the Moog Voyager, which can be heard on Cappuccino Girls. Nige started his musical career at the age of seven, when he was classically trained on the piano. Throughout his career he has produced and directed many musical masterpieces. Nige has worked with scores of musical greats, including Mica Paris, Elvis Costello, Chris De Burgh, Lulu, Bryn Terfel & Bonnie Tyler to name but a few.
Nige recruited the help of Tim Hamill and Hywel Maggs for the guitars and backing vocals were provided by Caryl Parry Jones, Christian Phillips and Ffion Wilkins.
Aswell as old friends, Nia teamed up with some new friends to create the artwork for the CD. Rev. Mark Baker of River Design UK, preacher/graphic-designer, was given a blank canvas and created the stunning artwork for Cappuccino Girls. Dave Farrants of Fox Video captured some wonderful images for the CD artwork.
A photo-session was required, along with some stunning models to accompany the stunning artwork, so to accompany Nia, she enlisted the help of... Sara-Non (sister), Ruth and Natalie (cousins). They all met up for cappuccinos, had a great girly-get-together and Dave caught the atmosphere on film.
